Find out about the summer sustainability program for EKU Employees.
During summer 2017, Eastern Kentucky University was able to reduce electricity usage from May through August by over 460,800 kWh (about 2% of the campus total), by setting back building thermostats one-half hour earlier Monday through Thursday, and at noon on Fridays. This reduction occurred even with four ongoing major construction projects adding over 400,000 square feet of building space to the campus. The energy-saving strategies introduced in summer 2017 were only a fragment of the broader summer energy savings strategies that continue to be planned for future.
As the end of the semester approaches, we are excited to announce that beginning May 14, 2018, ALL EKU campuses will begin the Summer Sustainability Schedule. Like last year, the core hours of operations for the University will shift to 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Thursday; 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM on Friday.
Recognizing that some departments and individuals are required to operate outside of normal University business hours, supervisors/department heads will be permitted to adjust the work schedule at their discretion to meet the needs of the department and the University. It is important to note this summer schedule will not alter any planned University activities or events during the summer, including summer classes, orientation programs, camps and conferences, etc. These events and activities will continue as scheduled.
